Howdy folks and welcome to week 7 of your Tumbleweed Farm CSA. We hope you had a wonderful week and are staying relatively cool. This week we’ve been transitioning to more summer crops on our harvest list for the farmers market and you’ll all start getting more of that soon. Zucchini is on! Cucumbers are getting close, and a few cherry tomatoes are starting to ripen. The corn is cranking and the peppers and eggplants are looking healthy. It’s starting to look and feel like July out here!
We hope you enjoy this VERY greens heavy and healthy box this week. Happy cooking and eating everyone!
Your farmers,
Andrea, Taylor, Pepper, Maize and our awesome crew
Harvest 7
Kale—super high in antioxidants, contains vitamin C, Vitamin K, Manganese and various polyphenols
Kohlrabi— Kohlrabi is great for gut health as it contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. It also contains a wide array of antioxidants, such as vitamin C, anthocyanins, isothiocyanates, and glucosinolates. These plant compounds protect your cells against free radical damage that may otherwise increase your risk of disease.
Head Lettuce—This leafy green is a rich source of vitamins A, K and folate. Also a good anti- inflammatory leafy green.
Cabbage—this tasty brassica helps reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation is the leading cause of disease and incorporating more anti-inflammatory foods is very beneficial.
Scallions—Great for overall immune health. Scallions are a good source of vitamin C and a flavonoid called quercetin. Both can strengthen your immune system and help it fight illnesses.
Fresh Garlic—the list of health benefits is almost too long!! It’s anti-fungal, anti- inflammatory, boosts immune health, and is full of antioxidants! Just eat garlic with every meal!
Broccoli—Broccoli contains many vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Research suggests that some of broccoli’s plant compounds are thought to help prevent cancer when eaten often. Broccoli’s benefits include helping reduce inflammation, keeping blood sugar stable, and strengthening the immune system.
Dill—is great for digestion and helps with bloating. Because of its antacid properties it’s great at easing indigestion, gastritis and other inflammatory conditions.
